There are very few voices that touch my soul, but Sarah McLachlan is one of them for sure. This album, surfacing, is so well produced, and the songs are incredibly unique, haunting and very beautiful. I love Building a Mystery, and Arms of an Angel, and I have to say I /5().

Her breakthrough album was called "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy;" on "Surfacing," Sarah McLachlan sounds like she's content to just float her way there. Which means that if you want a piece of her nirvana, you have to go along at her protracted, glacial pace. McLachlan favors maternal patience over bombshells, whispered intimacy over a quick.

General CommentI always interpreted the song like this: The world has so many problems (political, social, moral, take your pick) but instead of trying to fix them, we just wait around, hoping things will be better in heaven. I think Sarah is doubting whether that will really happen, and wondering whether human beings should make the Earth itself a better place, rather than waiting to be.
