    Connecticut band Apse made their way to the All Tomorrows Parties label having produced a number of self-released EPs and one more formal outing for Acuarela. This splendid full-length captures the band in brooding, ominous form, shifting from the Slint-like 'From The North' to suspenseful post-rock passages on 'Blackwood Gates'. There's a bluesy undercurrent running through this record too.

    It's true that Spirit were a very album-oriented band, one that might best be experienced through albums rather than compilations. If a compilation's good enough for you, this is a good one to get.
